What's your favorite era in history?
The History Thread
What is your favorite era in history? I myself am a middle ages guy. I was always fascinated by castles, medieval warfare is thee best kind of warfare. (AoE and historical wise) This is why I joined K&B. I also like Early Modern, when Poland established an Empire in the 16th century by using Polish Cavalry.
Re: The History Thread
Medival warfare was the best, it the most tactically sound, now, it is just "bomb the area," sad

Re: The History Thread
It seriously depends on where it's happening tho. I like Ancient China, WW2 China, and Medival Age of Europe.

Re: The History Thread
That's right. From a strategic point of view, the 16th century was probably the most interesting in Europe, with many types of military units still around, ranging from Crossbowmen via Musketeers and Pikemen to Cannon.
On other continents: In Asia, the 19th century was probably the most interesting, with all those European colonising powers fighting the local empires, and not always winning for a change. In the Americas, the 16th century was probably the most interesting, as the American colonies were then formed, and the Native Americans still had something to say. Africa has never been really interesting from a military point of view, nor has Australia/Polynesia.

I agree that Renaissance is good, but I think that ancient battles are better, still.

Re: The History Thread
I actually don't like it to much, to depressing, on both sides of the war e.g. Japanese atrocities in China, nuclear bomb, holocaust etc. WW2 is all about how violent Man can be

Re: The History Thread
I've never wanted to choose a side as far as the Pacific theatre of WW2 goes. Surely, Japan may have done some things wrong, and I do accept those. Still, I can't get away from the thought that the atrocities then commited by the US to subdue Japan were far more inhumane than anything the Japanese had ever done...
And when talking about WW2, there is never a reason to not emphasize the role of the RAF.

I like the Early Modern period best, the biggest mix of strategies, weapons and armies. I cried when I read about the Amboyna Massacre though.

Re: The History Thread
well, i love see the french people freedom his country with help of england and USA armies... oh.. and the soviets killing those bastard and freedom poland
Re: The History Thread
You can't look at WW2 and just see the Germans as 'bastards'. Sure there were a number of things that were severely ethnically incorrect in Nazi Germany, but do think of the great building projects, the immense technological advance, the sheer effectivity of their army. All they wanted was an empire of their own and if they hadn't been so nationalist, I'm sure far less people would have cared, just like nobody had cared about the former Swedish, Austrian, Russian and Ottoman empires which had also seen lots of things that featured in the Reich. I'm not trying to make Nazi Germany sound good, but you can't just view them as 'bastards' or even 'evil', that just doesn't do them right.
And to make sure nobody starts about genocides: Is Serbia an evil country? Or France? Or Spain? They all did genocide and mass murder (even though they did obviously not use the name), and while we may not like those acts, that doesn't make a whole country evil, does it?
peugeot407
PS: Also, the Soviets didn't 'free' Poland as such, but Dude's shouting mouth and his fist will be able to remind you of that.

Re: The History Thread
peugeot, i know that nazis made many advances in science and tegnology in WW2, it was the good point of those people, but, i dont want remember those genocides ... and dude, dont get angry, aleast you country dont surrender in battle
Re: The History Thread
Poland suffered some of the worst destruction in all of WW2. Warsaw was essentially leveled to the ground and Russia was no saint ether, after Stalingrad, they did to the germans what they did to everyone else. Before WW2, they massacred their own people constantly.
Every country did made things to their own people and others, not just in WW2 era. There is no 'good' country and if you dare say 'America' I would like to invite you to kiss my ass. (very touchy subject all round)

on topic: China during WW2 was half occupied by Japan while the CCP and the GMD cooperated to drive out Japan, relations broke and fought amongst themselves. CCP won and GMD fled to taiwan.
