Regarding Spanish Civ
And this post:
You may want to know that the Conquistador is an exclusively age of discovery unit (so, it has no bearing in a medieval setting.)
I recommend replacing it either with the Hueste:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hueste
or hidalgo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidalgo_(Spanish_nobility)
Also, Tercio may be too modern a unit for your uses, but I guess it could appear on the last age or something.
Another interesting thing to note is that Spain has the oldest marine infantry corps in the world, maybe you may want to use that for something.
peugeot407 wrote:I believe the idea was for the Spanish to have three unique units:
-Almughavar: Javelin armed counter-archer that deals lots of damage and moves at high speed. Very vulnerable in melee. (replacement for Skirmisher)
-Jinete: Ranged cavalry unit that throws javelins and moves at very high speed. Can stand its ground in melee better than most ranged cavalry (replacement for Cavalry Archer)
-Conquistador: Cavalry unit that offers a good compromise between speed and hitpoints. Armed with a sword (replacement for Light Cavalry)
Tercios and Rodeleros could be unique upgrades. The Moor Guard wouldn't make much sense, considering the Moors are another full civilisation in K&B.

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
Thanks for your suggestions! And welcome on our forums, of course...
Considering the cavalry name: I don't think Hidalgo would fit, as Wikip says they were nobility, so they would look a bit odd on a civ that also has Knights. Hueste might work though, and I really like the sound of it.
Interesting indeed... Do you have any more information or a Wikip article about it?

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
If you look closely, the Hidalgo linked to the Szlachta, since both of them are similar. Hidalgos are low nobility, who were frequently trained for combat and in medieval times they were more like knights than nobility really. Though I also think Hueste sounds better.

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
Ah, formed in 1537 I see, which is just outside our timeline. I don't mind though, we might add them as Hand Gunner replacements (other civs get the Hand Gunner in the last age after researching a Gunpowder tech).
Do we even have an avatar gallery? Ah, our forums are so different from WotTA's...

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
Polish szlachta was the noble class itself, consisting from low poorer nobles, to the high rich and powerful magnets. However they where trained in combat.Hoop Thrower wrote:If you look closely, the Hidalgo linked to the Szlachta, since both of them are similar. Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
The tercios were formed on 1534 though, so then it'd be also outside the timeline, without mentioning that Conquistadores were from 1518 at best.
If I may ask, are you sure you want to do Moors? It'd be pretty difficult to make them different from both Sarracens & Spanish...

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
I know, but yes, we're sure. The Saracens were more going to be Salah-ah-Din-ish anyway, the Moors will be our desert civ

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
Robert never actually mentioned the timeline. It would be nice to know considering that some Polish units are from the the 1500s.
Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
Ah well, I don't really care... Just make sure it's either medieval, or early Italian Renaissance.

Why not Saracens and Persians then? Everybody likes persians (particularly when they relate them to elephant warriors)

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
We have the Persians (and their Elephs) as natives, but for a main civ I don't think they were important enough in the Middle Ages, or the Renaissance for that matter...
@ Dude: 1518 is, 1599 isn't.

Re: Regarding Spanish Civ
We'll probably just use the Spanish voices that came with AoE3. That is, unless somebody provides us with a new set. We're more worried about Italian, Greek, Polish, Danish, Arabic, Mongol, Welsh, Lithuanian, Hebrew, Persian and Hungarian voices, of which there is a complete absence...
Something I did mean to ask you: The Order of Santiago is obviously from Galicia, and as such their units should rightly speak Galician, but given the unlikeliness that we will ever find Galician voices, should we use Portuguese (on the basis that Galician is similar to Portuguese) or Spanish (on the basis that Galicia is part of Spain) voices?
