Well might as well bring this topic back to life since Christmas is coming up. :lol: In Poland you open presents on Christmas Eve, or Wigilia. Wigilia is basically a massive dinner on Christmas Eve, but where I come from we just call Christmas Eve Wigilia. We have several tradition on Wigilia such as leaving an extra plate just in case an unexpected guest shows up (Poles are nice okay :lol: .) The opłatk is a very important part of Wigillia. An opłatk is a white wafer sort of thing with a religious image on it. Ex:

Everyone gets one and we break off a peace and give it to someone often saying a blessing as well. During the dinner part we eat barszcz (a blood red soup) with uszka (a small type of dumpling that you put in the soup. It literary means 'ear' :lol: ), herring, pierogi (dumpling sort of food but better then dumplings; also my favorite Polish food), gołąbki (stuffed cabbage; I personally hate them), etc. We aren't aloud to eat any meat though. I also need to try each dish or I'll be screwed next year. :lol:

That's just not going to happen. It's like the cold war really, an arms race is the last desperate hope of a nation trying to keep public opinion under control. That's what happened to the soviets, their people stopped seeing the west as a threat, focussed instead on the dictatorial system they were fed up with, and Russia then became more-or-less democratic. AND BEFORE THE DUDE STARTS SCREAMING, I KNOW THE BREAKDOWN STARTED IN GDANSK, WHICH IS INDEED IN POLAND.
