What's your favorite era in history?
Re: The History Thread
YES, most myths and legends are in fact HISTORY. Those ancient people knew what they wrote, they didn't just invented it, they were writing down history! IT wasn't fantasy for them, they talked serious about it. It' just that most myths (Or all myths) are slightly (Or a lot) changed during those thousands (Or hundreds) of years. It is ridiculous to not believe them if it just looks... unbelievable. Give me a myth, I will decipher it.
PS: I'm NOT talking about folklore, a lot of folklore is in fact fantasy, to explain certain things. Or to make the children afraid, I am talking about mythology.

Re: The History Thread
Well, it all rather depends. When people write down what they experience doesn't necessarily mean it happened that way exactly. Take the film 300: All those Persian mutants are exactly as the Greeks thought of them, but that doesn't mean there were actually any mutants in the Persian army. It's largely the same with the amount of Persian soldiers.
@iliander: What about Atlantis?

Re: The History Thread
Of course it depends. But about the mutant thing, I'm sure that something of it must be true, in fact there were a lot of hybrid/mutant-like giant-sized humans. (Seriously) Like the Nephilim from the bible...Well, it all rather depends. About Atlantis:
*** = "The Ones Who Are Forbidden To Speak About"
Atlantis wasn't a city, it was a country, the first country or base established by the ***. The Garden of Eden also was in Atlantis (Not sure). And it's not only Plato who writes about it. Atlantis is described by all other ancient cultures, sometimes with other names. All myths are found in all cultures, those ancient cultures were all connected to each other, they even had airplanes! :affraid: (In Indian mythology there was a "golden age" where people would fly using special craft, there have also been some airplane-mooking models been found in South America) So if you would start with stopping to just ignore the stories because they are classified as "myth" and start reading and analyzing them, you would see that it is all just history, forbidden history.

Re: The History Thread
Thing is, you can't know that you're right either. I believe most stories about mythological animals, like the giant hedgehog. Gorillas were thought to be a silly native African myth, until European explorers discovered them.

Re: The History Thread
Well, I asked about it because I think it's not impossible for Atlantis to have existed. While I don't believe any of your, excuse me, nonsense, I do think it would have been possible for there to have been an island nation called Atlantis, colonised by the Greeks.
Speaking of myths, do you find it odd that the Vinlandsaga is regarded a myth by some? It's among the best proven historic events in the world, but still people regard it solely as a myth. Troy is actually quite similar, except there's slightly less evidence, but it would still be a massive coincidence if Troy was all made up.

But that doesn't make sense at all. Just because it seems unlikely or too fantastic for you, shouldn't be a reason for blindly saying "I don't believe any of your nonsense". Although I respect your opinion, you have no proof for your opinion. If literally every ancient culture (Which were able to build buildings which we barely can) speaks about almost the exact same things, which include:
- Giants (The Mayans said that their Pyramids were build by a giant creature! :affraid: )
- Gods which came down from the heavens to the earth in flying chariots
- Large, silver birds (Airplanes???)
- Silver shields which attacked Alexander the GReat's army from the sky
- A golden age where people could fly in special craft
- A world-wide flood which wiped out most of the giants
I mean... common. I can provide some pictures if you want... ancient ufo depictions lol.

bullsh*t bullsh*t bullsh*t , you are speaking nonsense, sorry to burst your bubble, but since your parents didn't do it for you when you where 8,
- Giants (The Mayans said that their Pyramids were build by a giant creature! )
- Gods which came down from the heavens to the earth in flying chariots
- Large, silver birds (Airplanes???)
- Silver shields which attacked Alexander the GReat's army from the sky
- A golden age where people could fly in special craft
- A world-wide flood which wiped out most of the giants
All wrong, give me evidence that isn't from a novel or religious text.

It is not built by <You Know Who>. It is Poseidon.
Garden of Eden, based on the 3 Holy Books, located between the Euphrates and Tigris, and 2 other smaller river. It is in the Mesopotamia.
Golden-age: It is now...
- Giants (The Mayans said that their Pyramids were build by a giant creature! affraid )
- Gods which came down from the heavens to the earth in flying chariots

1. Maybe the Patagonian? They have big body alike a giant.
2. It must be a meteor (from an Atheist eye).
3. Comet Halley
4. Meteorites
5. Its today
6. Then the giants move to the mountains, some of them become Yeti of Himalaya.... I think no, I think what did they mean with giants are the big bodied animal, i.e. mammoth, emu, etc.

*facepalm*
OMG learn your history right!
And novel what? And of course from religious texts, what do you mean? Look, it's history FROM religious texts.
It is not built by <You Know Who>. It is Poseidon.
Pepp, they are THE SAME. =.= I don't want to be rude but the Anunnaki are gods how the Sumerians called them, they are the same as the GReek god, Egyptian gods and most other gods. It are THE GODS. And Enki is the same as Poseidon, also Dagon is the same as Poseidon.

1. =.= No, real giants, and it was only 1 of them.
2. No, because then there wouldn't be gods coming out of them.
3. No, then it wouldn't be silver and they wouldn't look like birds.
4. No, they constantly flew above them and looked like silver shields, they also attacked them with unknown weapons. Meteorites only fly in 1 direction... And you can't shoot at meteorites with a bow and arrow.
5. No, that doesn't say anything about the golden age in the past, there can be 2 of them.
6. Why the *** would they call big animals: "very large humans with lots of knowledge".
Folklore is in a smaller scale, which makes it less chance of the stories being true, or just accurate (most myths are changed with the ages).Folklore is the same thing as mythology.

Re: The History Thread
Ok, I think the Dude doesn't want to get me started again on how the Soviets WERE NOT COMMUNISTS! They were clear and utter dictators. Their philosophy wasn't even close t any forms of Communism, Marxian, Leninists. But Stalinist and Maoist Communism strived to far away from the original (And real) Communism that they should be ashamed to call themselves "Communist"
And to stay on topic, Medieval warfare was by far the best, most strategy was put into it, and their soldiers were the only soldiers put to the courage test (With regards to what happened in WW1 and WW2), but Medieval soldiers compared to those brave ones who fought in the world wars were the ones with the most bravery.

But hardly anything happened that is known of, and it's not history as it was before writing, that's why it's PRE-history.
