The Mythology Thread!
I just loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove mythology. Discuss different legends and such from your nation here!
And Iliander, this is not a thread for ancient aliens nor is it a thread for claiming myths are true.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
I love the Mabinogion. Such brilliant stories! I like the legend of Bendigeidfran (giant Welsh king of Great Britain) particularly.
And I like Irish myths too. English ones are sometimes good.
Scandinavian sagas and legends are amazing!
That's all my heritage that I know of.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
So you need to be from the same religion in order to believe the "myths" to be correct? What? That's not true, sorry but it is. And I don't know enough about Hinduism to say if I'm part of it or not, but I think it's overall a correct religion. And those myths are just some history written in the "holy books", it's not some sort of thing you must do to be part of the religion, it's history for them.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
But if you believe the myths of a religion, you believe the religion, ergo you adhere to that religion.
I believe that all the sincere religions were sent down by Ahura Mazda/God to prophets, but interpreted differently in different places, so it doesn't matter what religion you are.

AS long as you are a good person, who cares what religion you are. All major religions teach basically the same thing, morally wise.
I honestly find that Mythology is just highly exaggerated stories

Some aren't. And some are, surprisingly, a reality.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
I like reading them, but I don't believe most of them. Except ones about strange creatures or Leprecauns/Fairies/Trolls/Elves which could be surviving prehistoric people, gone up to live in the hills, who fight with guerrilla warfare, at night, which makes them seem scary and magical, and who live in dwellings like hills, which explains the fact that these creatures often are very involved with hills, and would make people find them scary because they used to bury people in hill-like barrow tombs, and this scariness has been passed down through the generations. Evidence for this is an arrowhead that a 19th century Scottish Presbyterian minister had shot at him by 'elves'. It was flint, and very much like the weapons of pre-Celtic peoples. And other mythical creatures could be cryptids.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
You just said something very wise and true, Paco. It's also true that most myths are in fact reality, like Pepp said. But you must know the difference between folkloric beliefs to scare the children and real myths which appear whole over the world.

Re: The Mythology Thread!
Did you know that until the 19th century, gorillas were thought to be a stupid myth, the pongo?
But then cryptozoologists found them.
