Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
Training Heavy Cannon/Rockets/Great Bombards is waaaaaaaay too slow for it to be any use. I don't ever do it. I may ship some from the HC, but that's all. Mainly I rely on Horse Artillery, but when I'm short on pop I train Falconets instead. Actually, if I also have a few Heavy Cannon sent from the HC I always train Falconets, because the entire artillery army would only move as slowly as the slowest unit, and it would be pointless to train quick Horse Artillery if they're only slowed down by Heavy Cannon.
Come to speak of artillery, does anybody ever train Grenadiers??? I personally think their attack is quite okay but their rate-of-fire is so damn slow that they always need infantry as support, which often makes me train just infantry and forget about the Grenadiers...

I get the French church ones, and sometimes when I'm Ottoman or British to back up my real artillery.

I never use grenadiers unless I am Ottoman, there is really no point. Just use mortars or falconets. I only use petards to take out forts.

Pointless, and such a waste.
I very rarely use Petards as I dislike suicidal terrorism.

I do have one, and it's called peugeot407, but to be honest, I've never played online and I don't have a clean install so ESO wouldn't let me in.

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
Hmm, I just found I backed up my protoy.xml, and that was the only data file I ever modded, so apparently I CAN go on ESO.

PS: So spango, if you want to play, feel free to defeat me. Just tell me when to be online.

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
Grenadiers rock, they are one of the best infantry units (actually they are infantry artillery, siege troopers). They are awesome IN group and AGAINST group. They can easily defeat somewhat any kind of infantry and artillery. But somehow suck against melee cavalry (not ranged). Making it wise to put some Musketeers in front, a good army is 25 Musketeers and 25 Grenadiers. And the good thing is that they can also easily defeat buildings... From far range!Come to speak of artillery, does anybody ever train Grenadiers??? I personally think their attack is quite okay but their rate-of-fire is so damn slow that they always need infantry as support, which often makes me train just infantry and forget about the Grenadiers...

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
I think 'far range' is a bit optimistic... Their range isn't that good, and if you want to destroy buildings you're better of training some cannon. They're also better against cavalry. Still rubbish, but better than Grenadiers.

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
Yes, but imagine an army of 50 Imperial Grenadiers with all possible other upgrades from either the ARsenal or HC cards, you can destroy almost any building in a few seconds, with a good range for INFANTRY. Just make sure you got some Musketeers to protect them from some possible cavalry.
But nothing beats Cannons, 20 Falconets just rock!

Cavalry beats cannons, and 50 Lancers rock too.

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
Hmm, I hardly ever play as the Spanish... What I have found is that if you have lots of infantry and you put them in the extra spacing formation, they can beat of more cannons than one would expect!

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
British are good, and they're one of my four favourite civs, the others being the Dutch, Ottomans and Indians. Gurkhas!!!
I started out with the French by the way, because I thought their broad choice of infantry would be a good thing...

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic
The French have got the biggest military, 5 Infantries and 3 Cavalries.
And about the Gurkhas, do you know that their stats are almost EXACTLY the same as the Skirmisher?
EDIT: @Pepp: That's nonsense...
